Crowdfunding has become a popular way to finance all sorts of projects in recent years, from independent films to tech startups. Here are five of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns ever, based on the amount of money raised.
The fifth most successful crowdfunding campaign is that of the Exploding Kittens card game, which raised $12.78 million in February 2015. Exploding Kittens is a card game for people who love cats and explosions.

In fourth place is The Coolest cooler, a portable cooler that raised $13.28 million on Kickstarter in August 2014. The Coolest cooler features a built-in blender, music player, and LED lights, among other things.

The third most successful crowdfunding campaign is that of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, which raised $16 million in September 2012. The Oculus Rift went on to be acquired by Facebook for $19 billion.

In second place is the Pebble Time smartwatch, which raised $20.34 million on Kickstarter in March 2015. The Pebble Time was the sequel to the original Pebble smartwatch, which was also a successful Kickstarter campaign.

The highest-funded crowdfunding campaign ever goes to... drum roll.. Brandon Sanderson who wanted to publish four novels he wrote during the pandemic. He raised $41,754,153!
